The case was highly publicized and tried twice. The first trial resulted in a hung jury. The second trial resulted in a unanimous acquittal on all counts in the summer of 1994.

Other notable successes include a dismissal of all child molestation and rape charges falsely brought against the son of the mayor of Vancouver, in both Washington and California, and the acquittal of a teacher accused of child molestation and child rape charges in 1987 that led to the featured article “Shattered Lives” published by Northwest Magazine in 1989. 

Mr. Thayer also successfully defended and obtained dismissals in child pornography, sexual exploitation of a minor, communication with a minor for immoral purposes, and indecent exposure cases.

Most recently, Mr. Thayer obtained a dismissal of a first degree child molestation charge for a police officer in Skamania County in April 2010, dismissal of a first degree child molestation charge for a volunteer fireman in Clark County in December 2010, an acquittal for a young college student charged with felony communication with a minor for immoral purposes in Clark County, Washington in February 2011, and dismissal of a case involving a high school band instructor charged with 9 counts of felony sexual misconduct with a minor in the first degree in Clark County, Washington in April 2011.
